Even with the large screen this flash MP3 player is compact overall, measuring just 2.3 inches by 4.4 inches. The previous generation of the Touch was slim, but the new version is even skinnier, with a depth of only 0.28 inches.

This flash MP3 player can store a lot of entertainment too. There are factors that will make the exact tally different for every user – including song length and the storage space you use for apps and other media – but you can expect to fit about 16,000 songs on the 64GB model.

You will be able to listen to them for very long spans of time, too. This unit has a battery that will power your music for 40 hours when fully charged. It can play video for up to seven hours when fully charged.

The name "flash MP3 player" is a bit of an understatement for most products of this type, and that includes the iPod Touch 64GB, especially considering the wide range of audio formats it can play – ACC, Protected ACC, HE-ACC, MP3, MP3VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV. It will also handle video files in H.264, MPEG and Motion JPEG format.

Apple is known for innovating and the iPod Touch 64GB has some great examples of that. This is an excellent music player but it does so much more besides. The average flash MP3 player does not let you record and edit video, for instance. This one does. You can even record in low light settings. Make it all fit together with the built-in editor or upgrade to the iMovie app, which will help you add themes, titles and transitions.

Though it is not a phone in the traditional sense, you can also call your friends with this flash MP3 player. Using a Wi-Fi connection and the FaceTime feature you can video chat in real time with your friends who own iPods Touches or iPhones. All you need to fire it up is an Apple ID and an email address. You make all video calls through the internet so they are completely free.

This flash MP3 player has two different cameras too – one on the front and one on the back. The front camera is designed to focus on you at short range so your friends and family can see you while on your video call, and the other camera can record anything going on around you that you want to show your friend. You can also get still shots using the iPod Touch with the front and rear cameras.

If you don't know anyone in the gaming universe, the auto-match features will help you find people who are looking to play with a group as well.

There are a few minor weaknesses with this MP3 player, which would not even be considered weaknesses by many users.

At this price point we were disappointed not to find a radio onboard. If designers are including a sophisticated camera and so many other extras they might as well include a radio too for those who like to discover new music that way. Some of the flash MP3 players we looked at also let you record directly from the radio. That is not an option with the iPod Touch.

Also, we're not certain everyone really needs 64GB of storage space on a flash MP3 player. That's a decision for each individual flash MP3 buyer. There are other storage sizes for this player too. Those are worth consideration.

The iPod Touch flash MP3 player offers the wonderful multi-touch display that so many Apple products do. You can speed through the well-organized menus in a flash with your finger. You can easily rotate your entire screen with the flip of your fingers. Scrolling and zooming are a cinch too. Between the Home button, multi-touch display and the crisp, high-resolution screen, it is really hard to get confused while using this MP3 player. Ease-of-use extras include the shake function, which allows you to turn your iPod Touch on and change the song. An easy-to-find graphic equalizer makes it easy to get your music sounding just the way you like it.

This flash MP3 player organizes music for you into logical genres through iTunes, but it is also very easy to make your own playlists based on personal preferences.

Apple is not the best of the best for customer support. Searching for answers on the internet is certainly acceptable in some circumstances, but Apple could make it easier to get a real person on chat or on the phone. The people we eventually got to speak with were all very friendly and helpful.

A 90-day warranty is certainly nothing to celebrate but it is better than nothing. You probably won't have any problems that will involve the warranty anyway. This MP3 player is built to last.

This flash MP3 player looks and acts like a phone in many ways so it may be the perfect fit for someone that wants to be able to make calls, take photos and surf the net without an actual phone or the expensive service plan that goes with it. This flash MP3 player is not quite an iPhone because it does not have GPS features, a high-quality camera or the fastest internet connection. We don't fault it for that. We were just looking for an excellent MP3 player, and we definitely found one in the 64GB iPod Touch.
